Jayson was pestering to go fishing.  Not me, I had to figure out Live Writer.  So Con, feeling sorry for the kid, picked up one of the poles sitting by the door and took him out to the dock.  15 minutes later the yelling started, the tyke was at the door screaming “Grandma caught a fish…. hurry, hurry.”  I ran out and there she was leaning over this 6″ Jack with a horrified look on her face.  “Help… help… it’s hooked on its back and I can’t get it loose.”   No problem, couple of twists and the poor little thing was back in the water.

So, Grandma retires, this smug look of satisfaction on her face.   Now it’s my turn to fish with the tyke.  Brought out old faithful, my sleek silver minnow Rebel- its body rippled with jagged tooth marks from battles with denizens from the deep- and started casting.  20 casts later, nothing.  30 casts later, still nothing, when off to my side I hear the tyke cry “Grandpa… Grandpa… I caught a fish.   And indeed he did!  Maybe not the biggest but when your 8 and get “your fish” who cares.

Thankfully, the pressure was off, I quietly put my pole away… no one noticed my dismal failure with old faithful.

Yea, right…

This was a day not much different from others. Here are a few photos showing the highlights.

When Tom suggested this subject by preparing a draft of this post with his photos, I was flustered: I had not taken any pictures of the river taxi. His images are too nice to just pass up, so I searched my photos from our Savannah adventure. Here, on the right,  is what I came up with:

Not a stunning photo of the river taxi, you say?

OK, it is a rather tight crop from a rather different subject. I had a series of images taken from the roof patio of one of the hotels on Bay Street. The series was for a planned panorama exercise.

100 years ago it was difficult to manufacture uniform flat sheets of glass. As that glass ages it deforms into the patterns we now know as “rain glass”. Today we pay premium prices for glass which is created with similar patterns deliberately created in it.

In the days before the Civil War, brick forts were America’s main defense against overseas enemies. In one two-day battle during the Civil War, new technology proved its superiority to brick forts. The Union army used rifled cannons to compel a surrender by Confederates inside Fort Pulaski. No one ever built a brick fort again after the battle.

Thus starts the description on the National Park Service site for Ft. Pulaski.
